Pump Storage Power Plant Grimsel 3

The  Grimsel 3 Pump Storage Power Plant will be situated underground and uses water between the existing lakes of Oberaar and Räterichsboden.

Most Important Construction Stages:

• Pressure shaft from Kessiturm pressure shaft to the new Grimsel 3 plant
• New power plant with 3 regulated 200 MW pump turbines
• Tailwater tunnel to Lake Räterichsboden

Benefits:

• Balancing irregular energy sources (e.g. wind and solar)
• Providing systematic services for grid stabilisation

• Capacity approx. 600 MW
• Investitment approx. 600 million CHF (2006, +/- 20 %)
• Construction duration: 6 years
